The Third Open International Forum of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation began its work in Moscow. The forum discusses the participation of ministries in international legal cooperation, the interaction of the Russian prosecutor\'s office with the competent authorities of foreign countries on extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters, and international cooperation on the arrest, confiscation and return of property obtained in a criminal way.
For five years, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation decided to extradite about 5 thousand people to the competent authorities of foreign countries. This was announced by the deputy head of the Main Directorate for International Legal Cooperation, the head of the extradition department of the Russian Federation Government, Alexander Kupriyanov, at the Third Open International Forum of the Russian Federation Government, held in Moscow.
Since 2012, Russia has sent about 2 thousand requests for the extradition of persons to other states. To date, more than 900 of them have been satisfied. Criminals are trying to hide in countries with which Russia does not have an extradition treaty.
However, starting in 2012, it was possible to resolve the issues of transferring wanted persons to Russia from Chile, Ghana, Cambodia, the United Arab Emirates, Paraguay. Considered more than 17 thousand foreign requests for legal assistance.
In addition, for the years 2015–2016, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation, $ 400 million were arrested at banks. The security forces of Russia do not stop the process of returning illegally acquired assets from abroad. For two years, at the request of the GP Office of the Russian Federation, real estate in France, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy, Bulgaria and Montenegro was arrested.
This was announced at the international forum of the GP Office of the Russian Federation by Denis Grunis, head of the international cooperation department for particularly important cases of the Main Directorate of International Legal Cooperation.
The number of requests for the extradition of persons for criminal prosecution and for the enforcement of sentences, satisfied by the competent authorities of other countries, has increased by another 94 people, according to the data for the first half of 2016, against 66 people for the same period of 2015.
