Russia and Ecuador signed agreements on avoidance of double taxation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long signed a number of bilateral documents in Sochi. As the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation clarified, among the signed documents were the Convention between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ecuador on avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasion with respect to taxes on income, a joint statement on the first non-deployment of weapons in space, as well as a joint statement by the foreign ministers of the two countries.

According to Lavrov, the signed documents should strengthen the developing partnership of the two countries.

“The Convention on Taxation and Combating Money Laundering will definitely strengthen the foundations of our economic cooperation and further strengthen Ecuador’s position in trade with Russia. Now this country is one of our leading partners in Latin America and among the countries of the Caribbean, ”said the Russian Foreign Minister.

So the Russian minister noted that the document on the first non-deployment of weapons in space "is a contribution to the organization of the work of the UN, where the same topic is being promoted on a bilateral basis."

For its part, Long noted that Ecuador "aims to get rid of the role attributed to it only as an exporter of raw materials, diversifying the economy, and expects that the development of trade cooperation with Russia will help in this". “Relations between Russia and Ecuador are going through a wonderful period, they were able to achieve the status of a strategic partnership. Signing these documents is a very important milestone for us,” he added.

By the end of 2014, the volume of commodity turnover between Russia and Ecuador reached $1.5 billion. Bananas, flowers, coffee, seafood and tropical fruits dominate in the structure of supplies to Russia. Russian exports consist mainly of mineral fertilizers, paper, medical equipment and rolled metal.
